You’ve probably seen those cute, trendy plants called succulents, maybe even brought a few home yourself.

Everyone knows the basics: they need soil, water, and sunlight. But here’s the real question, how well do you actually know your succulent?

You might’ve tried again and again. Googled endlessly, studied the best soil mixes, and maybe even splurged on some premium blends—because, seriously, how can a tiny plant keep outsmarting you?

Yet no matter what you do, they just keep dying. You pick up a pretty one at NTUC, Giant, or Cold Storage. The first few days, it looks great! But by the end of the week, it starts stretching, then the leaves drop... and before you know it, it’s rotting away.

Eventually, you stop buying them altogether. You admire them from afar, but deep down, you feel defeated—too afraid to try again, convinced you’re just not a "Plant Person"

Let me stop you right there don’t give up on planting just yet. Life’s already throwing curveballs left and right, and nurturing something green and living should be your escape, not another reason to feel defeated.

I get it, you’ve done the Googling, read the blogs, maybe even followed a dozen plant influencers. And honestly, online advice can be solid… but here’s the twist, most of it isn’t written for Singapore’s climate.

You live in a place that’s relentlessly humid, where moisture hangs in the air even at sunrise. Yet, there’s barely any local guidance out there. You buy a succulent from NTUC, Giant, Cold Storage, whatever's nearby and you're told, “Just water once a week.” That’s the same thing the internet says, right?

So you panic about overwatering. You hold back. Just a few droplets. Maybe a mist. Because in your mind, succulents hate water. But here's the plot twist: your plant isn’t dying from too much water, it’s dying of thirst.

Drought, ironically, created by fear of drowning.

At Green Cuddle, we’re all about nurturing peace of mind through the beauty of plants. We provide step-by-step care guides tailored for every succulent we feature. Whether you choose to buy from us or not, this post is here for everyone—so if you’re reading it now, we’re truly glad you’re here.

🌱 Succulent Care Rule #1: Mix It Up Right 🌱

Skip the usual cactus & succulent soil. Try vegetable soil instead, strange, but smart!

🪴 Yes, it contains peat moss, which holds moisture (too much, actually). On its own, that’s bad news for succulents, think waterlogged roots and a sad, mushy end.

✨ Here’s the secret sauce:1 part perlite + 2 parts vegetable soil This combo improves drainage and airflow while keeping just the right amount of moisture.

Surprising? Yes. Effective? Totally.

🌱 Succulent Care Rule #2: Read the Weather, Not the Calendar 🌧️

If it's raining, hit pause on watering, wait at least 2 days before reaching for that watering can.

Why? Succulents need their soil bone-dry between waterings. Moist weather = slower drying = a soggy, unhappy plant.

🌿 No fixed watering schedule here. Instead:

  • Gently poke the soil with your finger or use a toothpick.

  • If it feels dry? Go ahead and water.

  • If it’s still damp? Step away from the can.

Let your instincts guide you. Trust the soil. Trust your plant-loving heart.

🌿 Succulent Care Rule #3: Light It Right 🌿

Give your succulents indirect sunlight as much as possible.☀️ Too much sun? They crisp.🌥️ Too little? They stretch and grow weird.

Shops may say “they’re great indoors”, and that’s partly true. But even indoor succulents need occasional sunshine to stay healthy, compact, and beautiful.

✨ Think of light as their favorite vitamin. Don’t let them go without it.

🌱 Succulent Care Rule #4: Let Them Breathe 💨

Succulents don’t just want airflow, they need it.

Poor ventilation leads to lingering moisture, and lingering moisture leads to rot, fungus, and plant drama you don’t want.

💡 Here's how to help them breathe easy:

  • Place your succulents in open areas with good air circulation.

  • Avoid stuffy corners, enclosed glass domes, or overly humid spots.

  • If they’re indoors, a gentle fan or open window does wonders.

Healthy airflow = happy, resilient succulents. 🌬️
