While we had started selling succulents, many had feedback that we do not provide any tips on how to take care of them. Appreciate everyone's feedback and patience with us! I will try to give a general care tips for succulents as a blogpost for now, and update/elaborate it when we have more picture for illustrations. TLDR below!

Imagine succulents as cactus. Technically, cactus is a type (sub-category) of succulent but not all succulents are cactus. This means that they do not require a lot of water. Very frequently when people see that their succulent is struggling, they give them even more water thinking that it will save them. Little did they know, the most likely cause of death to succulent is over watering.

Overwater:

Pictures taken from the internet. A sign of overwatering. Will replace it before people find me for copyright issues. Overwatered succulents generally looks more translucent, bloated and may also turn into a darker colour.

Underwater:

Sunlight

Ideally, the succulent can be placed somewhere with partial sunlight, preferably 3 to 4 hours of morning or evening sun. Avoid the mid-day scorching sun. Place it at a balcony or beside a window should be good, but do be careful if the position is exposed to rainwater. Do not let your succulents drown in the rainwater!

Soil

A well-draining is essential for growing succulent. Do not repot your plant in to a pot with no drainage holes below for water outlet. We also do not want a waterlogged soil as it would cause root rot (similar result with overwatering).

TLDR / Summary

  1. Do not overwater. Water when you feel that the top part of the soil is very dry, or about once every 2 weeks. Overwatering is the number one issue we have seen with growing succulents!

  2. Around 3 to 4 hours of sunlight (indirect) will be good. Avoid mid-day sun.

  3. Only use well draining soil. If in doubt, ask the person you are getting your soil from.
